Lovely Lolly P1 Pupils

The children of Primary 1A made fantastic Lollypop figures of themselves today! The Lollypop class will be going to visit our friends in Italy next week- we are sure you will agree that they look very smart in their tartan kilts and trousers!

Primary 2 Movies

The children from Primary 6  and Primary 2 have been working collaboratively  to make short movies about numbers.  The primary 2 children  have been learning about numbers up to 10.They have made animations using these numbers and Primary 6 children have been showing them how to do it.

Mid Calder Nursery explore birthday numbers on the friendship trains!

The children in the nursery are allocated a key worker and join a group, either the red, blue or yellow group.  We made friendship trains for each group, using coloured shaped paper.  The children are exploring early number labels by concentrating on their own special number, their age!

Primary 1 - use colour to sort objects into groups

In Primary 1 at Mid Calder Primary children between the age of 4 and 5 use colour to sort items into groups. This is the beginning of their number skills. The teacher can then assess the children on their understanding of one to one correspondence.

Shape and Pattern

P2B made shape pictures of the houses on the Isle of Struay after reading stories of Katie Morag. We used circles, squares, rectangles and triangles to make our pictures. Katie Morag is a picture book all about life on Scottish islands. The author is Mairi Hedderwick. The children (age 5 and 6) were learning about 2D shapes.

Primary 3- Shape, colour pictures

The children at Mid Calder Primary 3 (age 6 and 7) in Scotland made shape and colour pictures to display their sketches of African animals. They were learning about the properties of 2D shapes and how colour can affect how we feel.
